You can further improve your safety and the safety of others by undergoing advanced driver training. All advanced driver training courses are available through Pro - Scot Driving School and require approximately fifteen hours of tuition. Tests take around one hour and are conducted over a wide variety of road and traffic conditions. The options available are:
Both the IAM and the RoADA tests are based on the Police Drivers Manual and use their test marking system. The DIAmond Advanced Driving test is based on the marking system used to test driving instructors but with a maximum of six errors being allowed. The 'Cardington Special Driving Test' is a more difficult test, it uses a similar marking system but with a maximum of three faults being allowed.
On the 1st June 2002, DIAmond Advanced Motorists introduced the 'DIAmond Special Driving Test', a more difficult test still as only two driver errors are allowed and they cannot be for the same mistake. This is a one and a half hour test over a 30 mile test route.
John Macdonald and Gary Cooper have been specially trained to develop your driving skills carrying out all training for our advanced driving tests. Their aim is to help you achieve a high and consistent standard. Emphasis is placed on road safety and minimising risk. Check John and Gary's qualifications and experience on their instructor profiles.
Training is charged at the rate of £25 per hour (minimum 2 hours) and is normally done in the customer's own vehicle.
The benefit of advanced driver training and qualifications is discounted insurance premiums, professional recognition and in the case of DIAmond, membership of their Advanced Motorists Master Drivers Club. What is more important however is the 'peace of mind' that comes from knowing that you are capable of driving in the safest way possible.
When driving on our roads you have no control of what others do. A measure of how hazardous this is can be is that nearly two thirds of drivers on the road today are not capable of passing their driving test again without further training. You can minimise your risk and best protect you and people around you by driving to the highest possible standard. In doing so you are reducing the risks caused by others. Investment in advanced training is a small price to pay.

The DIAmond Advanced Driving Test is the only advanced test to conform to the BS EN ISO 9002 Quality Assurance standards and to have gained Driving Standards Agency approval.
The IAM is a wholly independent, non profit making organisation with the aims of improving driving standards, promoting road safety and providing an Advanced Driving Test.
RoADA's objective is the reduction of road accidents by encouraging interest in road safety, by improving driving standards, knowledge and skill and by enabling members to pass the RoADA's Advanced Driving Test.
