
Eligibility and Legal Requirements
To be eligible for the ADI course you must meet the following criteria:
- You must hold a full and unrestricted UK or European Union (EU) European
Economic Area (EEA) unrestricted driving licence
- You must have held this licence for a total of four out of the past six
years prior to entering the Register after qualifying
- You must not have been disqualified from driving at any time in the four
years prior to entering the Register
- You must be a fit and proper person to have your name entered on the
Register. All motoring and non-motoring convictions will be taken into account
- You must pass the Register Qualifying Examination and pay the appropriate
fees (turn register qualifying examination into a link)
- You must be prepared to make a substantial commitment of your time, effort
and money.
- If you wish to apply to start the qualifying process you will have to have an enhanced level criminal record check before you can be granted to take the theory test. However you should not obtain your disclosure if:
- You have any endorsements (including disqualifications or more than 3 fixed penalty points) on your driving licence
- Because of a disability you are only entitled to drive vehicles with an automatic transmission.
- You have not held a full UK or European driving licence for four out of the last six years.
