Ok, so training for, and passing your motorcycle test is the first step and who better than with Pro - Scot, but what happens next?
John Macdonald Pro - Scots Director, one of Britain’s highest qualified instructors and multiple Scottish motorcycle racing champion has always known that the more you develop your rider skills the more confidence and enjoyment you will get from your motorcycling by making you both a safer and more accomplished all round rider.
It's a fact that you will more than likely have trained on a relatively low power mid size commuter motorcycle wherever you have been trained, nothing wrong with that as everyone has to start somewhere and there is a limit to what can be taught within the time frame available, the bike you have trained on and the cost restraints within each course.
However when you pass your test the chances are the bike you buy has a lot more power and completely different handling characteristics to the motorcycle you trained on. No matter where you train, it's a fact that most of your "L" Test training and your actual motorcycle test took place in the town with limited training and assessment on the open roads, once you pass your test you will more than likely head for some of Scotland’s fantastic open roads with more challenging situations to deal with. The same situation applies to those who have returned to motorcycling after a long layoff.

You will probably discover that your new motorcycle is a completely different animal from the bike you trained on, or the bike you rode many years ago, you will also find that insuring your first bike with limited experience can be can also be expensive.
What if there was a scheme which was open to all full motorcycle licence holders no matter what size of bike or experience and could assess your riding abilities on your new machine? Whilst providing you with additional training if it was required or simply assess you as competent and provide you with a DSA Certificate of Competence - Enhanced Rider Bonus to entitle you to automatic insurance discounts, not to mention the benefits in gained rider skills.
Well there is, it's called the Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS), Pro - Scot are the only school in the Fife area that has met the qualification standards required to deliver it and be on the (Register of Post Test Motorcycle Trainers) RPMT.
John Macdonald personally delivers the ERS; this takes the form of a 2 hour assessment ride on your own bike with full feedback and a report. If you do not have any significant areas of weakness you are simply issued with your DSA Certificate of Competence - Enhanced Rider Bonus. You can then get a substantial insurance discount from one of the many insurers (A list of current participating insurance companies is shown below).
If you do have areas that would benefit from additional training, you would be provided with your certificate once your training has been delivered and a satisfactory standard achieved. In some cases you may simply be advised to take another 2 hour development session or a 4 hour half day session (for some riders it may be beneficial to undertake additional training to reach a satisfactory standard, please be assured additional training would only be recommended if it was necessary).
The idea is to take you to a level where by you feel comfortable and confident on your motorcycle, ERS is seen as an important step towards gaining an advanced rider qualification; we hope that you may wish to continue developing your rider skills and book onto one or both of our Advanced Rider Training (ART) Courses.
With motorcycling the more you learn the better it gets, you will never stop learning and who better to help you than John Macdonald himself?
