Team Pro-Scot Motorsport raced competitively between 1987 and 2006, this part of the website is dedicated to their many successes.
As 5 times Scottish Champion during the 1990's John Macdonald retired from the sport in order to set up his own business, which continues to go from strength to strength.
However, the lure of the race track returned and towards the back end of 2003, John reassembled his successful team for a couple of outings on a 1000cc Suzuki. Such was the success that a full campaign was planned for 2004 and the Pro-Scot team racked up not only the Scottish Sports Production Championship, but also the Melville Club Sports Production, The Open Championship and the Steve Hislop Memorial race to boot!
What's more, in front of a record 20,000 crowd at Knockhill in 2004 and in front of the television cameras, John Macdonald posted fastest lap after fastest lap to end up 4th in the British Superstock Championship race, claiming the scalps of many of the best riders in the country.
Pro-Scot's formidable team had the enviable reputation of winning a championship in every year they raced and was without doubt the most competitive and professional team racing in Scotland at that time.
2005 was a season of mixed fortunes and despite breaking his back early on in the season in a crash which would have ended many riders chances of claiming another Scottish title, John fought back winning more races and setting more pole positions than any other rider in the Scottish Championships that year. John finished 2nd in the championship only 25 points behind the winner, despite dropping more than 5 rounds through injury and mechanical failure.
John was back to full fitness for his 2006 campaign and broke the lap record at Knockhill 3 meetings in a row (The only Scottish rider ever to achieve this) setting a fastest lap of 50.827(s) a record which still stands today for the Scottish Sports Production Class. John was the first rider in a Scottish Championship to do a sub 52(s) lap and a sub 51(s) lap at Knockhill. John became disillusioned when his legal stock bike spent most of the 2006 being held up in the corners by riders who could pass on the straights. Never a rider to "cheat" he decided it was finally time to retire for good. The knowledge he gained however is being put to good use on Pro-Scot's Rider Development Courses run by John himself.

John Macdonald started racing back in 1987 and was voted best newcomer by the Barnsley based Formula 5 Club and to date remains the only Scottish rider to achieve this honour. John went on to his first Scottish Title in 1990 and then again in 1991 under the guidance of mentor Allan Smith.
Sadly, a lack of funds at the end of the season temporarily curtailed John's career whereby he used the time to good effect to set up Pro-Scot Ltd in 1996, the company which he successfully runs today. With the business established, John returned to the racing game in 1997 along with Friend Gordon Thomson and the Team won the Scottish 600cc title before clinching two more Scottish crowns the following season in the 250cc and 600cc classes.
Again the team was forced to withdraw at the end of 1998 as costs continued to escalate but once more the lure of the track returned in 2003 whereby John proved he had lost none of his talent and from there, the team went from strength to strength winning the Scottish Sports Production Championship in 2004, his 6th Scottish title.
During his illustrious career, John's professional approach and natural talent attracted a number of top teams to engage his services. These have included Team Durex Suzuki, Rizla Kawasaki and Honda Britain amongst others and his claim that the team was without doubt the most competitive, professional and formidable team with a proven reputation for winning in Scottish racing was completely justified.
Gordon Thomson (Left) was involved in the sport as both a racer and mechanic for over 20 years. He began his involvement with John and Team Pro-Scot in 1996 and his extensive experience and knowledge was legendary within the sport. But without doubt, Gordon ' s main attribute was his enthusiasm and passion for motorcycle racing that made him such a valued team member.
Allan Smith (Right) was renowned for his professionalism, organisational skills and attention to detail having helped British Champion John Crawford as well as John Macdonald to many of their successes over the years. Without doubt, both Allan and Gordon were instrumental in all six Scottish Championships that John Macdonald won.
