Hourly Learner Lessons

Being able to drive safely and competently so you can pass your driving test takes time. How many hours of lessons you will need to take before you can pass your driving test depends upon several factors. Your confidence and how quickly you can pick up new skills. What experience and standard your driving is at before you begin your lessons and the quality of instruction you receive.

"Research shows that learners who have a combination of professional instruction and private practice do better at the driving test. On average, those who pass have had 47 hours of professional instruction and 22 hours of private practice."

ProScot 1 Hour Lessons

This is the traditional method of learning to drive. The advantage is the low weekly cost but, with only one hour of practice at a time, progress can be slow unless you are a quick learner. We generally see a higher dropout rate amongst students taking one-hour lessons and in our experience, it ultimately costs more to get to test standard.

From experience Pro-Scot have found 1-hour lessons generally are not long enough to make significant progress each week unless you take more than one each week.  The first 10 to 15 minutes of a 1-hour lesson is spent trying to get back to your previous standard.  By the time you add in briefings, de-briefs and perhaps an instructor demonstration your time in the "driving seat" is very little.  Students therefore require more training hours to overcome this, costs escalate, and progress is slow.

Typical training duration: approximately 9 months - 1 year based on one lesson per week, or 4 - 6 months based on two 1-hour lessons per week.

Pro-Scot offers the following solutions:

ProScot 1½ Hour lessons

If you feel that 1 hour is too short and 2 hours is too long, our 1½ hour lesson is the perfect solution. Timescales to reach test standard lie between those quoted for 1-hour and 2-hour lessons.

ProScot 2 Hour Lessons

Our most popular non-intensive style training method, with a much lower dropout rate as students can see how quickly they are learning. A higher percentage of the lesson time is productive, and progress is therefore significantly quicker.

Typical training duration: approximately 4 - 6 months based on one 2-hour lesson per week, or 2 - 3 months based on two 2-hour lessons per week.

ProScot 10 Hour Block Bookings

This method of learning to drive enables you to take advantage of our Block Booking discounts. Lessons are paid upfront and can be taken in five 2-hour blocks.

ProScot Semi-Intensive Courses (Learn to drive in 6 to 8 weeks)

This style of course is becoming increasingly popular with our students, especially those who find that a 1- or 2-hour lesson each week is not enough but our 30-hour intensive "Learn to drive in a week” or our 20 hour courses are too much. Instead, why not opt for a semi-intensive approach to learning? By taking a 2-hour lesson at least three times per week, you should be able to learn to drive in about 6 to 8 weeks.

What Our Learner Drivers Say

My heart is full of joy and happiness as I just passed my driving test. I lack words on how to describe and pay gratitude to my amazing Senior instructor, Fred Beck. Fred is absolutely professional and patient and ensures to fine tune my areas of weaknesses. Fred was recommended to me by a colleague who passed her test at first attempt. I have been lucky to have him as my instructor and thankful to him for transforming me into a confident driver on the road. I have passed my exam on my first attempt with him and truly enjoyed the entire experience of learning. Thanks for giving me life lessons for letting go of things and subsiding fears. Respect to you for making this dream possible. I am happy to recommend Fred as an instructor to everyone, including my friends and family. He is a TESTED AND TRUSTED instructor. Thank you Fred
