Driving instructor training
- why ProScot?

At ProScot, our passion is training highly successful driving instructors to join our team. Many of Fife’s current driving instructors were trained and qualified by ProScot's Director and ORDIT trainer, John Macdonald. Our local ProScot instructors teach over a thousand learner drivers across Fife every year, significantly impacting driver training in the region.

EXCEPTIONAL
REPUTATION

We are highly respected by both the public and within the driving industry. Our commitment to high-standard instructor training, combined with our school's excellent reputation, sets us apart.

HIGH DEMAND
AND FULL DIARIES

Thanks to our strong reputation, there's a consistent and growing demand for ProScot driving lessons. This means our instructors enjoy full diaries, with most operating long waiting lists.

TOP
EARNINGS

ProScot instructors command the highest lesson fees in Fife and the surrounding areas. We focus on quality, not cheap deals, ensuring our instructors are among the top earners in the industry.

HANDS-ON
TRAINING

We take a very hands-on approach at ProScot. There is no substitute for getting in the passenger seat and learning how to instruct and coach, rather than relying on computer or classroom-based learning. And this way, you can ‘earn while you learn’.

BUSINESS
SUPPORT

We provide business start-up training and support to ensure you're successful from day one. You will be allocated an experienced support instructor for help and advice, as well as expert support from John Macdonald and the team.

JOIN THE FRANCHISE OR START YOUR OWN SCHOOL

Our franchise model is designed to support your growth, especially in your crucial first year. We hope that after you train and qualify with ProScot, you will want to join us and become part of the team. However, training options are also available for those who want to start their own driving school.

WHY TRAIN WITH PROSCOT?

YOUR PERSONAL TRAINER – JOHN MACDONALD

Your personal trainer is ProScot director, John Macdonald, one of the UK's most highly qualified and experienced trainers. His continued exceptionally high pass rates are what set our training school apart.

John is a Grade A driving instructor with a score of 51/51 in his most recent DVSA ADI standards check. John also achieved the maximum score of 51/51 in his most recent DVSA ORDIT standards check.

John currently has an overall Driving Instructor Training pass rate of 97% which is well above the national average of only 18% for all three parts of the qualifying exams to become a driving instructor.

ORDIT APPROVED TRAINING CENTRE

ProScot is one of Scotland’s leading ORDIT Approved Driving Instructor Training Centres, holding this prestigious recognition since 2001 – the first local driving school in Fife to achieve it.

WHAT IS ORDIT?

ORDIT stands for the “Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers”. Only training establishments that meet the rigorous assessment criteria set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) are included on this register.

WHY TRAIN WITH AN ORDIT APPROVED TRAINING CENTRE?

The DVSA strongly recommends training with an ORDIT-registered trainer, as it signifies a commitment to the highest standards.

THE INTENSIVE
FAST-TRACK COURSE

Our most popular and recommended instructor training option is the intensive, fast-track 8-day course, typically split over two weeks (e.g., 2 days/16 hours for Part 2, and 6 days/48 hours for Part 3).

  • Speed and efficiency: This course allows you to complete your training quickly, helping you become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) faster. The concentrated nature means lessons stay fresh in your mind.

  • Rapid progression: PDIs on this course can often complete training for all three parts (Parts 1, 2, and 3) and start earning money with real students on a trainee licence within 4 to 6 weeks. This is the method we highly recommend for joining the ProScot team.

FLEXIBLE “PAY AS YOU GO” TRAINING

If the intensive course isn’t suitable, we also offer flexible “pay as you go” training charged hourly.

This option is perfect for those who:

  • Need to fit training around personal circumstances

  • Prefer to learn at a slower pace

This flexible training can also be delivered semi-intensively, in 2, 3, or 4-hour blocks, with two or three sessions per week.

PDIs choosing this route typically complete their training for Parts 1, 2, and 3 and can begin working on a trainee licence within 3 to 9 months, depending on the intensity of their chosen schedule.

FLEXIBLE DRIVER INSTRUCTOR TRAINING TAILORED TO YOU

At ProScot, we understand that every Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) has unique abilities and circumstances. That's why we offer a completely flexible approach to your training:

Guaranteed full diary: Within just 4 to 6 weeks of joining ProScot, we guarantee you a full diary of high-quality work, scheduled at times that suit your availability

No “cheap deals”: Unlike some schools, ProScot does not require instructors to offer discounted lessons to build up their workload. We focus on quality, not quantity of cheap deals

Local work: Your work will be close to home, typically within a 5 to 10-mile radius of your address

High demand: All our ProScot driving instructors consistently have full diaries, with most operating long waiting lists - this ensures a steady and reliable income for you

MAKING YOUR DECISION TO TRAIN WITH PROSCOT

We want to help you make an informed decision about becoming a driving instructor. That’s why we offer unique opportunities to fully understand the role and the training at ProScot:

  • Speak with our instructors: We encourage you to speak directly with our qualified instructors, who are actively teaching in the field. They’ll share their personal experiences, including both the advantages and challenges of the job.

  • Sit in on a lesson: Get a real feel for what it’s like by sitting in on an actual driving lesson. This firsthand experience will give you valuable insight into the day-to-day role of an instructor.

  • Chat with current trainees (PDIs): You can also speak with our current Potential Driving Instructors (PDIs) who are undergoing their training to become Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs). They can offer a fresh perspective on the training process.

  • Meet our local team: Come into our Fife office and speak directly with our local staff. You won’t deal with a faceless national call centre here. Our team is familiar with the area where you'll be working.

  • Personal consultation with our Director and lead ORDIT trainer, John Macdonald: John will personally speak with you, providing all the information you need and answering your questions directly.
